ReGreeneration unites nine European cities in a collective effort to reimagine urban neighbourhoods as vibrant hubs of sustainability, livability, and social cohesion. With a shared focus on regenerating challenged neighbourhoods with people-centred and nature-based solutions, this project is not merely about transforming physical landscapes. It embodies a holistic approach to urban regeneration, embracing a strategic, cross sectoral approach to planning.
The “lead cities” – Alverca, Barcelona, Bucharest, and Paris – are undertaking flagship initiatives targeted at revitalising marginalised, polluted and car-centric neighbourhoods, designing green spaces and amenities accessible to all residents. These cities will serve as pioneers in developing and implementing renaturing solutions tailored to their unique contexts, promoting a higher quality of life for citizens. Their experiences and best practices will be shared with replicator cities such as Rome, Segrate, Lappeenranta, Ljubljana, and Ghent, each facing similar challenges in neighbourhoods with comparable characteristics to the leading cities.
By demonstrating the effectiveness and adaptability of local solutions across diverse urban landscapes, the project aims not only to transform individual neighbourhoods but to inspire and inform urban regeneration initiatives throughout Europe, contributing to the creation of sustainable and resilient cities.
