The neighbourhood
Lappeenranta’s project area is situated in the heart of Sammonlahti residential area. With this project the city aims to enliven the area by making it attractive and useful to the residents while also enhancing the nature values. Due to several recent construction projects in the area, the site has been left with zero or poor quality vegetation. As a result the current site offers limited amenity to residents and there is a low sense of .
Proposed transformation
Lappeenranta’s replication project draws inspiration from Bucharest’s Green Maze Fundeni, aiming to enhance public shared spaces in neglected residential areas and leverage digital tools for community engagement.
Despite ample green areas, Lappeenranta faces challenges with neglected and abandoned residential areas with limited recreational options and poor biodiversity.
ReGreeneration plans to repurpose these areas into green multipurpose areas for residents and nearby schools, boosting biodiversity, expand recreational opportunities, and increase resident satisfaction.
